NiteRider
Technical Lighting Systems San Diego, CA- June 29, 2006- NiteRider Technical Lighting Systems not only works with athletes riding for 24 hours, but also with riders racing from coast to coast over several days. For 2006, NiteRider supplied lights to 24Hr legend Tinker Juarez, competing in his first RAAM in the Enduro Solo category (3rd place), along with Kenny Souza (Enduro Solo- 4th), David Haase (Traditional Solo- 4th), Shanna Armstrong (Traditional Solo- 1st) and the two person team Racing Against Diabetes (1st- 2 Person Mixed). “RAAM riders rode 3,000 miles across the U.S. in 10 days while the Tour de France is 2,000 miles in 21 days. These riders have my respect,” according to NiteRider president Jack Gresmer. “The RAAM is the most underrated athletic event in America.” All endurance riders know that good lighting is essential to any race effort and dependable lighting leaves riders with more time to ride, rather than having to deal with problems. Of the 62 entries in the 2006 event, 29 were solo riders. Out of the overall 62, only 42 made it to the finish line and all 5 NiteRider sponsored riders completed the race. The RAAM originally began in 1982 as the Great American Bike Race and was won by ultra endurance pioneer Lon Haldeman. The event is now the longest endurance event of its kind in the world and is recognized as one of the toughest sporting events to be found. Competitors are considered both brave and insane, but the smartest ones rely on NiteRider for their lighting during the grueling race.
