Founded in 1989 by Tom Carroll, NiteRider was built around a simple belief: riders deserve lighting they can rely on after dark.

BUILT FOR THE RIDE.

Today, NiteRider is led by Founder and Chief Executive Officer Tom Carroll. From the company’s earliest helmet-mounted lighting systems to the cycling, powersports, and outdoor products built today, NiteRider has remained focused on practical innovation, product reliability, and rider confidence.

NiteRider Begins

Founded in 1989 by Tom and Veronica Carroll, NiteRider began with a simple question: what if darkness did not have to end the adventure? The first systems were built for people who still wanted to surf, ride, explore, and keep moving after the sun went down.

Light Where You Look

Early helmet-mounted lighting changed the experience of riding after dark. Instead of aiming light only where the bike pointed, riders could put the beam where they were already looking into turns, down the trail, and toward what came next.

Charging Through the Night

As 24-hour mountain bike racing grew, riders needed more than a bright lamp. They needed dependable power, practical runtime, and systems they could trust through long nights, changing weather, and the miles that came after midnight.

The Bike Light Got Smarter

The Digital Pro era moved beyond simple light output. Riders gained more control over brightness, charging, battery feedback, reserve power, flash modes, and multi-light setups making the lighting system feel like part of the ride, not just an accessory.

Higher Output, Longer Rides

As riders pushed farther into endurance events, technical trails, and all-night adventures, NiteRider kept refining the system around the real problems that show up after dark: usable light, secure mounting, dependable power, and confidence when there is no easy way home.

The LED Era

LED technology changed what riders could carry on the bike. NiteRider evolved toward more compact, high-output, rechargeable systems designed around practical runtime, easier charging, and everyday reliability from serious trail riding to the commute home after sunset.

FOUNDER & CEO TODAY

In June 2025, Tom Carroll resumed the role of Chief Executive Officer. Today, he leads NiteRider as Founder and CEO continuing the work he started in 1989: building lighting systems that help people keep riding after dark.

THE STORY CONTINUES

Built for the Ride. Designed for What Comes Next.

From the first helmet-mounted systems to the products NiteRider builds today, the same idea has remained at the center of the company: solve real problems for people who keep moving after dark.
